The New Era of Uncle Bill’s
Fresh Looks, Same Heart
Take a behind-the-scenes peek at how we’re updating the beloved charm of Uncle Bill’s while staying true to its roots.
A freshly restored antique Fallow Deer carved head. The pieces are coming together for the most unique pancake house in all the land.
After many decades of lighting up south Kingshighway blvd. The Uncle Bills neon sign is down! The Martini glass at the top left corner of the sign is a clear indication that it was not originally built to sell pancakes. 😂 Our friends at the @neonworksstl who created our iconic @thegoldenhoosier neon marquee are just the guys for this restoration!!
Glazed green tiles are a common design element used throughout Germany dating back to medieval times. They were used in the construction of castles and buildings, such as those at Malbork Castle and Elbląg Castle. So we are definitely going to bring this detail to the coolest Bavarian pancake house in all the land!
Freshly restored mid to late 1800’s carved wooden Red Deer for the main dining room.
To honor the German lodge aesthetic of our main dining room at @unclebillsstl we are importing antlers from Germany. The mounting styles are different from what you might be familiar with and so are the antlers themselves because they are different species. Here in North America we have White-tailed deer and Mule deer but in Europe they have Roe deer, Red deer and Fallow deer.
The booths so many of us have made fond memories in, are about to get some much deserved love!
If you look closely at our stained glass windows you will notice that some of them have convex glass which gives them a bubbly or pillowed look. A good number of the windows had cracked pieces and so we are having them repaired by our friends at @prestonartglass . The process involves heating and slumping the glass over forms in a kiln to achieve the slight curve. There are so many little details that go into restoring a historic building while trying maintain as much of the original detail as possible.
Redesigning the pancake making machine. 😊
We officially bought Uncle Bills Pancake House today!
It’s gonna take a minute for it to sink in. Restoring, reimagining and rebirthing this icon will be an exciting challenge.
Many hands make for light work. Let’s go team!! 🚧
